Lore Introduction
Info
AXYLON takes inspiration in Cyberpunk and Fallout series, Paranoia, Space Station 13 and many other games and settings that fit the similar theme. While we keep our lore an original work and don't use any names or materials that would interfere with intellectual ownership of third parties, we do take loose inspiration in these works and proudly admit it. We love the works of fiction made by the true writers and creators in the genre.
AXYLON is an underground city designed to protect its residents from catastrophic events. The initial construction was completed in 2010, however the original design was revised many times as AXYLON was not only keeping up with technological advancements, it was often the experimental playground for bleeding edge technology. A select group of individuals has chosen AXYLON as their permanent home ever since the beginning. Preferring its security and isolation over the uncertainity of normal cities. Initially, AXYLON served as an exclusive retreat for the wealthy seeking escape from outside world.
Ever since 2025 the city is controlled by highly advanced artificial intelligence named ATLAS. This AI managed to compile perfect statistics, solutions and tasks for the working class to maintain the inner ecosystem truly self-contained, easily replacing management positions. This experiment turned out to be huge success and AXYLON was thriving as an off-grid technological marvel, marking new era for urban living.
The true importance of AXYLON became clear in 2028 when nuclear war broke out. This apocalyptic scenario transformed the undergroud city from a niche luxury destination into a coveted sanctuary. Everyone in the vicinity sought refuge within its fortified walls, deep below surface, seeing it as one of the very few options for long-term survival.
Despite attempts to seal the city and maintain it as a safe haven for the elite, ATLAS had full control and one goal above all others — the survival of the human race. It decided to let more people in to ensure enough genetic diversity for future generations. As the gates opened, allowing entry to the masses, chaos ensued. Everyone wanted to get in, even if it meant killing others. The city council quickly deactivated the AI, but it took hours to close the entrance and seal the city. They had to clear away the dead bodies that had piled up and blocked the gate.
Of course the AI didn't remain deactivated. Residents of AXYLON needed it mainly to help them with constant analysis of all sectors and resource management. This time however they limited the AI's access. Throughout the years ATLAS was constantly getting more power only to have it revoked again as the society couldn't really decide and agree upon how much access should the AI have.
Now, the year is 2050 and the city is shaped around wealthy and poor alike. What was originally mere fight for survival became rich culture. And of course, with the size of the underground city, it was never a place where everyone truly cared for each other. Solidarity is rare. AXYLON is heavily capitalistic environment where the most heinous businesses thrive. And as could be expected — consumer society consumes itself.
Aside from humans, robots also inhabit the city. They range from simple robotic vacuum cleaners or construction assisting robots to very complex specialized or even generally intelligent robots. However only rarely there is any middle ground, as such jobs are carried out by humans. Robots are either very stupid or very qualified. There is only small incentive to replace medium skilled human jobs. Ironically the cost of a human worker in this closed environment is often cheaper than a robot, as people don't have many other options.
